UPDATE!!

I love talking about myself apparently. Anyways, this year i'm taking TWO photography classes in conjunction with my TWO painting classes! Get excited y'all! Let's see if photography has a place in my heart

Oh yeah...

Big Red isn't done yet either. I love oil paints but my god its a bitch to clean up haha.

Oh God.

Holy Mother, so apparently I have more than one account on blogspot haha. I was so confused and I had no idea what my password was for this one haha. Anyways, im ITCHING to get into the studio again and get all motivated and crap. I don't know why  I havn't been painting as much this summer but I hope to fix this soon.

faiiil

epic fail

so the goal to have a collection by the end of summer has failed. haha. but WHATEVER! I made a few paintings...started a lot..I now know my niche is with oil paints. don't be hatin'! Once school starts and I get my competitive spirit going then i'll be creating masterpieces one after another. also, I think i'll take pictures of some favs from second year... that way my blog can get beefed up art style, and I don't look like a wannabe has-been in the art world... also, I think i'm going to go to school for fashion and design at some point... tune in next time!

Hello All, meet Red

Soo my life has been pretty stagnant in terms of painting. I've finally started to continue this painting  that's been sitting around forever. I think what I need to start doing is keep painting a bunch of things at a time because I find I get really bored with painting one thing and it just sits forever on my dining room table that is my makeshift studio. haha. So everyone, meet my work in progress (now that she looks slightly more alive than she did before). She needs a name...

MIA no more!

OKAY! so guys here is some art that i've finally gotten around to doing after like, a HUGE break. I know i've been MIA since school ended, but once i finished second year i just didnt want anything to do with art haha. So i slowly got back into it by sketching and making a tattoo :) Recently i went to the Andrew Morrow show and i found his stuff to be amazing (as usual) so i decided i needed to get working to get better than him lol. This is some so-far stuff. As usual i did NOT start with a background...and i'm doing a portrait :) predictable. haha. okay well i'll post up pictures of my tattoo ideas later! yeee

gah!

Omg okay so my exams are OVER! I'm DONE second year! I know it's been a while since i've posted anything significant at all but I promise you and myself that I will be drawing and painting like a mad woman. I recently ordered the book: "Suicidegirls: Beauty Redefined". I know, I know, it's fairly scandalous..BUT!... There are a ton of pictures which I could use as photo reference for my future paintings! Also!! I have purchased the latest Juxtapoz magazine featuring Jeff Soto's artwork on the front as well as an interview of him AND AND AND!!! an interview by an artist who has just come to my attention who is NAMED...*goes to get magazine* .. Chloe Early! Check her out, for real. If you're a fan of realistic depictions of people and life amongst a clearly imaginary setting  (a la Ian Francis) then go go go! She does amazing works with oil paints which is similar to the style i'm going to be experimenting with over this summer. I've already managed to draw quite a bit in my sketchbook. I was about to buy a new one but realized I had left one at my boyfriends house so its perfect! I spent today drawing about 3 drawings of people just for practice. I used to love drawing more than painting but now I just love painting so much more. There's so much to explore with painting. Also, Jeff Soto's interview really made me feel like I had found someone who was much like me and that I can actually quote as proof, this was concerning how his painting technique has evolved:

" It was okay to wing it, it was okay to leave in mistakes and show your process. I think i still take that approach."

DUDE I FEEL YOU! So far all throughout University professors have been forcing me to "make sure [my] figure touches at least three sides of the page!" or "Don't forget to be painterly!" OR "Put emphasis! use your eraser! erase the details!" NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! That is NOT how I roll thank you very much! I have ALWAYS always found that my absolute best works were from starting out with a line and then building off of it! Don't get me wrong. I really would love to master composition and styles like the Renaissance but I mean, I suck at that? haha well.. i'm getting better at displaying people but my composition is crap. THAT and like, I find professors are so desperate for you to make a nice composition that it just seems so effin fake you know? For Example:

"Your painting is too heavy on the right side, add a lamp on the left"
"but umm professor, this is a landscape painting.."
"AH TABERNAC! mettez une lampe on ze left!"

My professors are french. But hence a painting that does not compute. That was a bit of an exaggeration but you get what I mean. I don't know. Maybe i'll get better at compositions with time and I know I still need lots more practice before I decide to get all snappy and rebellious towards my professors and saying "Well Jeff Soto said this.." or something haha. Whateverrrrr. I'll find my way...

What was I even talking about before? Well its almost 1am. Although summer has started and school is over, I still have a lot to do with my life for the next few days....Bah im starting to get nervous about painting...what if I can't produce anything I really like? Okay we'll save those thoughts for later. Teetee why ell!

And thus marks the end of second year painting.

And here it is. My roughly done fourth painting. I know it's not great but I hate hate hate doing bodies so I thought it would be nice practice. And anyways, my prof only really wants to see work that fits so I might as well make as much as I can regardless of the lack of quality work.I didn't finish the background or the couch because I like the wood! My professor tells me to put a background in and this is what she will get. It counts for something. I hate backgrounds. My composition sucks 85% of the time and I hate picking colours and bleh. I always found that when trying to do something realistic, it shows that you're TRYING and that you're not quite there yet haha. So I stop halfway :p. With time i'll get better. And yeah this is my explanation as to why this one looks so different than the rest.....But yes, this has no title. I'll make one up later..as well as a vague meaning. Enjoi!

Work in Progress

omg so a MILLION trys later  I finally manage to get these up here. Okay so this is the work in progress for my last painting. It's a really quick last minute painting I decided to do instead of studying haha. I figured if I wasn't going to study then I might as well do something productive....also I now realize I blogged about this painting already....BUT!! these are different pictures so it's a whole different story now. right? ;)

"Shove it"

This is my third painting called "Shove it" It took about 6 hours to do which is nothing at all and i'm happy I got it done. It's based on Lisa Yuskavage's painting called...I forget but i'll get back to you haha... but it's a response towards the classic ideals how the female is portrayed in painting.

Hmm

Okay, so I think I really need to step up my artistic practices and really start to develop an amazing sketchbook. I need to develop my ideas and make it more than just a quick 2min sketch. I need to get crackin'

"Fake Blonde"

Work-in-progress: I like to call it "Fake Blonde" yet another Lisa Yuskavage inspired painting. These aren't too big, I wish I had the exact size. I have at least TWO more to do for next Wednesday. I also have 23 drawings to do and exams to worry about. Note to self: get work done. Lets hope I can keep this blog in action!

Painting number 1

Alright, this painting is for my second year painting class with Christine Major. I was to derive some sort of inspiration from an artist chosen by my professor. The artist was chosen based on our particular style or ideas so for my artist she chose Lisa Yuskavage. She is a painter in her 40s who was raised by a trucker father and eventually went on to obtain her Masters in Fine Arts in Yale University. Not bad eh? She does very sexual images of women who are often nude. So I thought I would show a little less than Lisa and focus on portraits.

First post!

So I just had a painting critique and my friend introduced me to the idea of a blog during our break. Im thinking this blog will be focused on my art rather than anything else. Im hoping I can keep this blog as mature as possible rather than a place to rant. We'll see how well that goes. haha..
